"A portrait of my children once a week, every week, in 2014."

Lucca: being fifteen, sitting on the table, licking every last drop of peanut butter off her plate.
Jackson: laying on my lap at lucca's soccer practice, waiting for his turn to play next.

WEEK 37. See what I did there? Skipped the whole summer! But jumping back into my weekly photos of my children, even though I still haven't replaced the lens on my "real camera" yet. It's on my wish list and Christmas can't come soon enough!

lucca: giving us daily glimpses of her older self, she is such a breathtaking beauty

jackson: 100% irresistible! getting longer and leaner by the minute, completely losing his baby look. And jumping off the top of slides if you look away for just one second.

Lucca:  She's been riding waves (and singing about riding waves) since 2009.
Jackson: Pretty proud of his "volcano" at Stinson Beach.

"A portrait of my children once a week, when I can remember, in 2014."

Lucca: Taking a break from doing cartwheels at the park tonight. And being beautiful as always.

Jackson: Watching the birds in the tree above us and wondering if they are going to come eat the crumbs we left from dinner.

lucca: Wearing my baby blanket as her queen cape, while rambling on and on about her butler and the parade she is about to be in.
jackson: Pulled out the Super Why costume yet again.  And being the sweetest son in the whole world.

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014."

lucca: Queen of the monkey bars.  She can go across and back and across again.  And then probably again.  And her latest and greatest trick is pulling herself up on the bar to do flips or hang upside down... all by herself!
jackson:  I could kiss this face forever.

Still iPhone pics, obviously.  And sadly.

lucca: Working on her class Valentine's.  She had to make 30 and was just about over it.
jackson:  We finally got rain in California!  Happy dude!

Wouldn't you just know it, as soon as I start a photo project with my "real" camera, my real camera breaks?   Don't take your cameras to the beach you guys.  Sand, I have learned, is very, very bad for them.  These are iPhone pics until I get a new lens for my Canon.

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014."

lucca: Her very first time in the snow (that she remembers!). The real 1st time was at Mimi and Papa's house on Christmas when she was only 1.
jackson:  He takes music class very seriously.

Snowy NYC

While New Yorkers have seen enough snow for the rest of their lifetime, I was the happy Californian visiting who thought the NYC Snowpocalypse 2014 was amazing!  I was lucky enough to have a few kidless days in the Big Apple with my husband while he was there on business shooting a couple commercials.

I spent my time bundled up, drinking coffee here and here, and taking cover from the snowstorm at the MOMA.  We celebrated Rustin's birthday wine tasting by the gallons at Amelie and feasting at Mario Battali's Babbo.  Indulgent is putting it lightly. Good thing birthdays are once a year!  I also hit up the ABC Home Store, which is basically Anthropologie x's a billion, super overwhelming and inspiring all the same.  I successfully shopped all of Nolita and SOHO and even had time to catch a show on Broadway.   I met up with a girlfriend from college who is a news reporter in NYC and had the best time catching up with her.

New York is a funny place.  I always thought I would live there for a year or two in my twenties, but that's not the path I ended up taking.  I couldn't live there now, especially with small children, but it sure is fun to visit.  And then put me on a plane back to gorgeous California, where the sun has shone all winter, where nature surrounds my home, and where my babies welcomed me back with screaming giggles...

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014."

lucca: my little flawless beauty and the freckles that remind me she is mine.
jackson: eyes constantly on sister, watching her every move in the bird's nest next to him.

I'm excited to take part in the 52 project, capturing a portrait of my children, once a week, every week, for 52 weeks.   I already take a million photos of my kids, but usually with my iPhone.  This photography project will force me to pull out my "good camera" (the real one) at least once a week and document the weekly changes as these beauties grow up right in front of us.  What a treasure these will be when the year is through.  There will be 104 portraits, telling the story of Lucca and Jackson's year in 2014.

Tiburon

This gorgeous little place in the world (and luckily in our beloved Marin County) is a town called Tiburon.   Most famous for Sam's Cafe, which if you have never been, you need to go. And make a day of it. Take the ferry from the city and spend a sunny afternoon on the patio sipping something cool and taking in the most beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay.

We had been having the best winter weather lately, so we packed up a picnic lunch and sat on the waterfront lawn that overlooks our city.  We love telling the kids our San Francisco stories.  Lucca loves hearing about being born in the city and living by the baseball park.  And we are happy to tell her as many San Francisco stories as she will sit and listen to.  That city holds a very special piece of our heart.

I sat and ate the rest of my lunch while these guys climbed on the rocks the whole time.  These lucky kids have the best dad.  I wouldn't dare take them on those rocks at the same time :)

The Big Anchor.

And waaaaait for it.  A photo of MOM!!!  Because I took one.  With my iPhone.   With Jackson's hand down my shirt.  Lovely.
