Today was a good day

Tuesdays are the most rad because
1) we sleep in
2) no preschool
3) we go on big adventures

Today's adventure took us to San Francisco to the Presidio library on Sacramento Street. We got Lucca & Jackson their first library cards at a library without late fees on children's books! Perfection.

We also went to the bathroom three times in 30 minutes. Does the library make everyone need to go to the bathroom or just my family? Cool. After we picked out as many princess, dog, Berenstein Bears and Pinkalicious books as we could find, we left and got hot chocolates. THIS is a big deal. Lucca was in heaven and just about the most perfectly behaved little girl you ever did see after learning we were on a hot chocolate mission. She even offered to carry my purse! That girl and sweet treats, you've never seen anything like it. Jackson passed on the hot chocolate opportunity (poor guy doesn't know what one is yet)..

We skipped naps and read all our new stories cuddled around the space heater during the afternoon. For dinner, Lucca came up with the idea to pack it up and eat it in the wagon on our walk tonight...and that's what we did. Sometimes you just gotta go with it, and it works. And it's fun. And the kids love it. We walked down our street to the golf course and collected stray golf balls. Then we watched big kids play tennis at the tennis courts. Then we chased wild turkeys and made our way back home as it was getting dark.

Now I have two sleeping babies. The house is quiet and I can't help but feel so dang blessed and lucky that tomorrow we get to wake up and do it all over again.
Except with naps, of course.

I made turkey & stuffing for dinner and Lucca said, "Stuffing!!?? That's for the inside of my dollies! Yuck!"

Love her.

Me:  "Lucca, did you leave Jackson outside all by himself?"

Her:  "No, he's out there with a scarecrow."

Tahoe has my heart.

We went on a spontaneous trip to Tahoe this past weekend and loved every minute of this little family adventure.  The weather was GORGEOUS, even though Lucca was hoping for snow the entire time and wouldn't take off her beanie.  We swam at the (heated) hotel pool, ate at our favorite spots, walked down memory lane and showed the kids where we got married, and even took a walk on the Rainbow Trail at Taylor Creek to watch the salmon spawn.   Educational trip!  Parent points!

Staying in a hotel was the kids favorite part.  Being in the fresh mountain air was mine.

Taylor Creek

Coco looking adorable and loving nature

The spawning salmon.  Unbelievable!
They come back to Taylor Creek (where they were born) to lay their eggs and die.  Then the young salmon swim out to Lake Tahoe in spring, return to Taylor Creek in the fall and repeat the cycle.   Watching them do their thing up close and personal was a-mazing.
(and Jackson only threw one rock at them, so that was a win?)

On our way back down the mountain, we met up with Grammie & Pops at Apple Hill to eat some apple donuts and drink fresh apple cider.   And to give Lucca the chance to ask Daddy for her very own horse someday...

I'm already ready to go back!  Having kids of good traveling ages is a dream we've been waiting for.  We are having fun imagining all the places we want to take our little adventurers.  They loved being away, seeing new sights and exploring.  And now that they can be well-behaved at nice restaurants, sleep in strange beds, and entertain themselves for hours in the car, we will be doing many more weekend trips.  I'm so excited!
